SRT and Cloet vice-champion in the Citation Cup

This last weekend SRT finished off a long and excellent international season with an first-rate second place in the FIA GT Citation Cup. Today Maxime Soulet and Tom Cloet also finished second in their category and were a mere eight seconds off finishing in the top-10 of a highly strong field in the final of the FIA GT in Zolder. Following on from Maxime Soulet placing the car on pole in the Citation Cup on Saturday, both SRT drivers drove a strong race, finally finishing in 11th place overall and second in their class. SRT is now travelling down to Brno to compete in the 6 Hours of Brno, the major local event of the season in the Czech Republic. The fast German Wolfgang Kaufmann will be one of the team's drivers. The young hope Maxime Soulet once again had the opportunity to excel in SRT's Corvette C5-R which he did with verve.

Maxime Soulet: "The beginning of the weekend wasn't easy. In the beginning of the first free practice Tom (Cloet) was forced to park the car off track due to a damaged gearbox. This season Patrick has only experienced one defect and now here in Zolder an unfortunate problem reared its ugly head. But OK the team put in an enormous effort and the car was ready..for the second free practice session which still gave us 80 minutes of testing time. The C5-R was perfect and thanks to SRT's technical crew pulling off a difficult feat we were able to take on the qualifying session in perfect shape."

The excellent work of the technical team and the highly motivated Soulet were the right ingredients for achieving pole position in the Citation Cup, in the wake of the FIA GT-runners. "Beating these boys is almost impossible", Patrick Selleslagh explained. "The regulations foresee a difference in rubber between us and the actual FIA GT-cars, whereby it really becomes a class on its own. Obviously a driver of Soulet's calibre will do everything to stick within the wake of the top cars without giving in an inch. It goes without saying that for him this is a challenge and a matter of honour. With the lap times he clocked up in the C5-R he has definitely proven that he's made of the right stuff."

The race was problem free, "even though I would have preferred finishing some nine seconds sooner" Tom Cloet had to admit after the race. "We're missing another top-10 finish by a hair's breadth, which for everyone involved with this team should have been the true fully deserved outcome of this final round of the FIA GT-story. But all in all I must say that with three victories in six races SRT and I have experienced a brilliant season."

There was not much more that Patrick Selleslagh could add to that last comment. "I'm now going to prepare for the race in Brno and try to score there also. But before all that a word of thanks to my wife Maryse, my son Niels, Roel, Mich, Bram and all those who worked so hard towards the success of SRT this season. We achieved three victories in the FIA GT Citation Cup this year, some ten podium places all told in France and FIA, not forgetting a strong tenth place in Spa and you can't do this on your on, it takes a team..."
