Pike's Peak USAC Div. Results

PIKES PEAK HILL CLIMB Millen, Kameyama Capture Pikes Peak USAC Divisional Titles

Rod Millen of Newport Beach, Calif. fell short in his bid to break the 10-minute barrier at Pikes Peak Saturday but he still won the "Unlimited" Division of the 76th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb near Colorado Springs, Colo.

Millen completed the 12.5-mile course in 10:07.70 in his Toyota Tacoma to beat runner-up Nobuhiro Tajima of Iwata, Japan by nearly 25 seconds. Millen's time was over three seconds shy of his 1994 ultimate course record of 10:04.06.

Akira Kameyama of Sano, Japan captured the other USAC-sanctioned portion of Saturday's hill climb, posting a time of 11:47.44 in his Nissan Skyline to capture the "Open" Division championship. Paul Choiniere of Shelburne, Vt. was second, nearly 22 seconds back.
