PTG BMW M3s AT THE TOP AT THE THREE-QUARTER MARK Nine hours into the Superflo 12 Hours of Sebring, the #10 and #6 Yokohama/Fina BMW M3s held onto a comfortable lead in the GT-3 class. Bill Auberlen and Boris Said have crept up to to 10th position overall in the #10 Yokohama/Fina BMW M3 four door and held a three-lap lead over their second-place teammates. They've completed 222 laps, 17 behind the overall leading #30 Momo Ferrari World Sports Car. Peter Cunningham, Ross Bentley and Mark Simo have completed 219 laps in the #6 Yokohama/Fina BMW M3 two door, and were in 14th place overall. The other two BMW M3s that started the race - the #1 Yokohama/Fina customer car of Andy Petery Craig Carter and Giovanna Amati, and the #54 Massari & Bell privateer entry, have retired. Clutch and transmission problems forced the #1 M3 out of the race during the eighth hour, and a ruptured oil line on course led the #54 M3s motor to seize on course during the sixth hour.
MARK SIMO -- #6 Yokohama/Fina BMW M3 two door: "I think I"m getting the hang of this. For me, it's just a matter of getting laps in the car, not making any big mistakes, not doing anything nutty. This is only my third race with the PTG team and I'm still the new kid on the block. (Team owner) Tom (Milner) told me to slow down a couple of times, to not get carried away. As good as it feels to go fast in the M3, it's the sensible thing to do in a 12-hour race. I'm very happy to get through two stints today with no major mistakes. The track is getting better and better all the time. But my work is through here ... now I can turn the driving duties over to Peter (Cunningham) and Ross (Bentley) the rest of the way."
TOM MILNER - Prototype Technology Group team owner: "Everyone has done a remarkable job so far, but we have a long way to go yet. Unfortunately, we lost the #1 car with the effects of a broken input shaft or bad clutch, whichever was causing problems for the other. We decided to retire the car. But the #10 and #6 M3s haven't missed a beat. But we've got to keep it up if we're going to pull this one out."
