Keeping the pressure on, Pecorari sweeps Mid Ohio

Building on a strong showing in Atlanta for the inaugural event of the IMSA Lites Championship that saw Pecorari win pole for both races and win one of two events, Adam Pecorari completed the sweep at Mid-Ohio, winning both poles and races driving the #2 Van Diemen Elan for Cape Motorsports/Hankook Tires. This is not new territory for Pecorari, as he completed the same feat at Mid Ohio in the 2004 FF2000 Cooper Tires Championship. It was action packed racing throughout the weekend, as eight different racing series were competing, including the American Le Mans Series, Speed world Challenge, and Star Mazda Series, to name a few.

Working in demanding weather conditions, most of the sessions were run in the wet, including practices, qualifying, and the second race. "We never ran the car in the rain, so it was tricky to find a setup", states Pecorari "the combination of a new car and new track surface made for a tricky wet set-up, but the guys at Cape Motorsports were up to the task this weekend".

Starting from pole on Saturdays race in dry conditions, Adam was strong out of the gate and able to pull a significant lead before a yellow flag would bring the field back together with a few laps remaining. Already leading the back and with a good feel for the car, Adam had a great restart and kept the lead going into turn 1. Then, with only two laps to go, driver Dan McBreen was hot on Pecorari's tail. Feeling the heat of close competition, Adam picked up the pace again to come across the line first with a 2.3 second margin.

Sundays race would prove to be more difficult than the first as this would be run in the wet. With the new surface on the track and little wet setup to work with, made for very slippery conditions. Unfazed by the conditions and starting again from pole, Adam had a good start and led the field into turn 1. Before completing the first full race lap, a full course caution slowed the field. After a few laps under caution, the race would resume with 10 laps remaining. Consistently turning fast lap after fast lap, Pecorari won in dominating fashion as he crossed the line with a 10.9 second margin.

Pecorari has now swept pole position in all four IMSA Lites Championship events, resulting in three wins. "This was a great weekend for the team," Pecorari said after the event. "We had a few more talented drivers competing against us in this event than in Atlanta, and I think we proved the Van Diemen Elan and Cape Motorsports package will be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season."

The next race for the IMSA Lites Championship will be the New England Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park, July 1-July 2, in conjunction with the American Le Mans Series.
