PTG BMW M3s Make Welcome Return to Lime Rock, Turning Point in Their Title-Winning Season of 1997

LAKEVILLE, Conn., May 17, 1998: A year ago, Tom Milner and his Prototype Technology Group BMW M3 team came to Lime Rock Park for the annual Memorial Day Professional Sports Car Racing event feeling mighty low after their worst outing of the season at Road Atlanta. But that didn't last long as they left with three trophies, filling the GT3 victory stand after a 1-2-3 finish that propelled Bill Auberlen to the driver's championship, PTG to the GT3 team title, and BMW to its second consecutive manufacturers championship.

This year, they come to Lime Rock feeling sky high, riding a streak of 18 wins in their last 20 attempts after their third consecutive 1-2 finish this time at the USRRC Sports Car Extravaganza at Homestead, Fla.

"We're really looking forward to Lime Rock," says Milner, who will field a pair of Yokohama/Fina BMW M3 four-doors in GT3, as well as a BMW M3 coupe in GT2 here this weekend. "It's the home track for BMW of North America (headquartered in Woodcliff Lake, N.J.), and there will be a lot of BMW people there, so we're hoping to put on a good show."

Auberlen, who sat out this past weekend's United States Road Racing Classic event at Homestead while racing in the Czech Republic, will be joined by fellow drivers Boris Said (who was born and raised in Stamford, Conn.), Marc Duez, Mark Simo, Ross Bentley and Peter Cunningham in the three-car PTG BMW M3 effort. Monday's 1-hour, 45-minute race, Round Three of this year's Sports Car GT Series presented by Virgin Interactive, will start 4 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live by Speedvision.
