Momo Ferrari leads field for First Union Six hours

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (May 31, 1997) -- The MOMO Ferrari of Andrea Montermini, Antonio Hermann and Gianpiero Moretti will lead the field for Sunday's First Union Six Hours of The Glen. Starting on the outside of row one is the DANKA/TOSHIBA COPIERS & FAX Oldsmobile R&S MK III shared by Wayne Taylor and Eric van de Poele. The front row was locked in qualifying on Friday. Row two is comprised of the #16 Goodyear/Hella/Bosch Ford R&S MK III of James Weaver, Butch Leitzinger and Exxon World SportsCar Championship points leader Elliott Forbes-Robinson. Weaver was the fastest qualifier in today's final qualifying. The Visit Peru Ferrari 333 SP of Eduardo Dibos and Fermin Velez will start on the outside of row two. The third row features the Acxiom Ferrari of Rob Morgan and Eliseo Salazar on the inside, with the ATFAB Oldsmobile R&S MK III of Jim Pace and Neto Jachamowitz on the outside. Andy Wallace qualified the Ford-powered Panoz GTR1 on the GTS-1 pole in the Exxon Supreme GT Series presented by Virgin Interactive. He'll share the car in Sunday's six-hour race with veteran sports car driver Doc Bundy. Stu Hayner was the second fastest qualifier in GTS-1, though he only got one lap in before losing an engine on his second qualifying lap. Martin Snow qualified his Porsche 911 Turbo on the GTS-2 pole, edging the similar Porsche 911 Turbo of Nick Ham, Franz Konrad and Michel Ligonnet. Bill Auberlen earned the pole position in GTS-3 aboard his Yokohama BMW M3. He'll be joined in Sunday's race by Boris Said, who finished fourth in Saturday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Loudon, New Hampshire.
