GT driver Matt Griffin, will re-visit the United States in an upbeat mood and primed for the next event in the TUDOR United Sportscar Championship and the North American Endurance Cup, scheduled to take place at Sebring International Raceway this coming weekend.
The esteemed Irishman will be joined by familiar co-drivers, Marco Cioci, Michele Rugelo and Jack Gerber in their #51 Spirit of Race Ferrari 458 at this 62nd annual event.
The Ferrari ace reported a strong test session at Sebring only two weeks ago, setting the fourth fastest time in the GTD class.“I am feeling very confident going into the race this weekend. We had an excellent test two weeks ago and my Spirit of Race Ferrari felt really good throughout the two day test. We were right at the sharp end every session so I think we are in good shape.”
The first round of the North American Endurance Cup, the Rolex 24 hour at Daytona, did not end as expected. A gearbox problem blunted the car’s charge early in the race resulting in the team losing almost an hour while the problem was fixed. Despite this, the team ran very competitively and made it to the finish.
“Obviously Daytona was disappointing. To have an issue that effectively puts you out of contention very early on is soul destroying. We learned a lot though and made it to the finish; I think the experience gained will really stand us in good stead going into Saturday’s race,” noted the Irish Driver.
Surprisingly this will be the first time the 2013 ELMS champion has raced at Sebring, which is well renowned for being an immense test for both car and driver.
