Jeff Gordon's Rolex 24 win puts him with elite company

The four-time NASCAR Cup champion partnered with Wayne Taylor Racing — and drivers Jordan and Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli — in the No. 10 Cadillac’s first successful run in the 55th Rolex 24.

Gordon, 45, who retired from full-time NASCAR competition after the 2015 season, joins just three other drivers — Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt and Jamie McMurray — to win both the Rolex 24 and the Daytona 500. Gordon won the Great American Race three times (1997, 1999, 2005).

All four drivers have also been victorious at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Among Gordon’s 93 NASCAR Cup wins with Hendrick Motorsports, he also accumulated five Brickyard 400s in 23 starts including in the inaugural stock car race in 1994. McMurray closed the deal at the Yard of Bricks in 2010 — the same year he won the Daytona 500 for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Foyt is part of the elite fraternity of four-time Indianapolis 500 winners. He joins Al Unser and Rick Mears. Foyt won at Daytona twice before winning the Daytona 500 in 1972 with the Wood Brothers.

Andretti’s only win in 14 NASCAR starts came in a Holman-Moody Ford in the 1967 Daytona 500. His sole Indy 500 victory was for Andy Granatelli in 1969.
