Kuno Wittmer unlucky 6th at the 24 Hours of Daytona

Daytona – After fighting hard all night and through the morning, the No. 93 SRT Motorsports Viper GTS-R had fought its way back to fourth in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class, just behind the No. 91 Viper in third place. A pit lane incident during the night had set the car back from the class lead or second position earlier in the race.

With three hour to go, the No. 93 car did not restart easily after a pit stop, costing the car more than one lap. Things took a turn for the worse when rapid racer Rob Bell was all set to claw his way back onto the podium and more bad luck came into play: the car stopped cold out on the track and had to be towed to the garages for repairs, losing more than ten laps in the process.

The much better news for the SRT Motorsports team is the great third place achieved by the No. 91 Viper GTS-R (Goossens / Farnbacher / Hunter-Ray) after a mechanical problem robbed them of the class lead earlier in the race.

Ralph Gilles, President and CEO SRT Brand and Motorsports, and a true racer in his own right, was satisfied but not overjoyed with the results. “We all know that things happen during a race, but it is still frustrating to have to settle with third place after running so strongly early in the race. The good news is that both cars finished the race, our cars are sound, and our drivers and team members are certainly ready to win. The 2014 season looks promising for SRT Motorsports.”

Kuno Wittmer shared these feelings. After working hard overnight to bring the car back up to a strong fourth place ready to take advantage of any problems by the leaders, he took a positive view of the event. “We showed that the car and the team are competitive and solid. We never quit despite the problems. We also drove a qualifying pace for the whole race, never letting up, and there is a good story coming out of this race: It will be a long season and we will win!”

Kuno Wittmer and SRT Motorsports will be back on track for the 12 Hours of Sebring, March 12 to 15.
