Michael Shank Racing crashes, crew member struck in pit road incident

Sebring, Fla. - Attempting to pass the Falken Porsche, Oswaldo Negri got his No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Ligier up on the curbs and lost control. He tried corrected the car, but hooked sharply to the right and slammed into a stack of tire barriers.

The left front, left side, and rear portions of the prototype were heavily damaged, but Negri was okay. The team was trying to battle back after losing a lap on pit road due to an unknown issues earlier in the race.

Negri's accident brought out the second full course caution of the event. During the yellow flag period, some opted to pit including the No. 57 Krohn Racing and No. 16 BAR1 prototypes ... And these two now have more in common than starting the race as the pole-sitter for their respective classes.

Crew member hit

The No. 16 exited his stall and pulled directly in front of the Krohn entry and contact was made, ripping winglets from the right front of the No. 57 and damaging the left front of the PC. The No. 16 then struck a tire carrier for the No. 50 DP.

Motorsport.com witnessed the incident and from our perspective, the crew member was launched into the air and flew 360 degrees around before coming back down to the ground on his back. A fellow crew member brought him to the safety of the pit wall where he was attended to by the medical team. He refused to get on the stretcher and after a few minutes of lying down, he walked the impact off.
