Daytona Beach, Fla. – Jordan Taylor topped the speed charts in the fast Prototype class during three daytime test periods in the Roar before the 24 action at the Daytona International Speedway on Saturday.  The second-generation driver and eldest son of team owner Wayne Taylor toured the 3.56-mile road course at a speed of 129.218 miles per hour, doing so in the opening round of practice.

Taylor team looking strong

“We usually have a good car at Daytona,” the articulate driver said.  “We didn’t do any testing in the off-season because we usually get lost trying new things.  We came with what we know, and it seems to be working.   We seem to be going back and forth with the Ford teams and we won’t know what we have until 12 hours into the race.

“We had a big plan coming here, and we have executed it pretty well.  We need a car that is comfortable to drive, as this race has become to be known as a 24-hour sprint race.  You need a comfortable and a fast car to be able to battle for the win in the final hours, and we need to just find the right balance.”

Taylor shares the driving duties with his brother Ricky and veteran road-racer Max Angelelli.  During the day, all three drivers took turns behind the wheel of the Konica Minolta Corvette DP.

Other sessions

In round two today, A. J. Allmendinger had the fastest time in the Michael Shank Racing Ligier JS P2 and Christian Fittipaldi took the honors in the final daytime run in the Action Express Racing Corvette DP. Night practice was led by Action Express again, but with Sebastien Bourdais.

Other classes

Colin Braun registered the fastest time of the day in the Prototype Challenge class.

Earl Bamber had quick time in the potent GT LeMans class.  He was driving a Porsche 911 RSR.

In the GT Daytona class, Marc Goosens led the way in a Dodge Viper SRT.

A 90-minute night-time practice session concludes the day’s test.

There was a scary airborne accident with Byron Defoor, which can be read HERE.
