75 entrants went through two rounds of vigorous selection processes, where they were judged on the basis of their laptimes, physical fitness and racing abilities.
The first round took place in Mumbai and Bangalore, while 40 shortlisted candidates progressed to the finals at the Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai.
The 17 selected female riders so chosen will make their racing debut in the first round of TVS Ladies One-Make series, which runs concurrent to the National Motorcycle Championship, in June.
In all, they will get to participate in five races astride the race tuned version of TVS Apace RTR 200.
TVS’ established racers will provide the selected female riders with expert guidance and training to prepare them for professional racing.
Commenting on the occasion, B Selvaraj, Team Manager, TVS Racing said, “We introduced an all-women racing academy in 2016 with a focus on training and equipping talented women racers to enter the mainstream racing arena.
“With each passing year, I am delighted to see the increasing number of participants for the training and selection process – which is a testimony to our effort of creating a democratic space for motorsports in India.
“The 2018 team looks promising and I am confident that the rigour and spirit, which they brought to the selection rounds will translate in superior performance on the race track.”
TVS has upped the ante in the third edition of its all-female racing series, adding two more riders and an extra round.
