Coimbatore Suzuki Gixxer: Rajnikanth takes Race 1 win as second race cancelled

B Rajnikanth won the opening race of the Suzuki Gixxer Open Cup in Coimbatore on Sunday, which was red-flagged after a hefty crash on the opening lap.

At the start of the race, Prativ Selveraj was caught out by the downhill Turn 1, suffering a huge crash.

The Chennai-based rider was taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary reasons while the race itself was red-flagged to recover his stricken bike.

Once the action resumed, Rajnikanth led away from rest of the pack, extending his advantage with every passing lap.

After 10 laps of racing, he took the chequered flag by over 11 seconds from Vivek Mani, who had crept his way from 12th on the grid.

Prabhu V took the final spot on the podium while Kamlesh Thakur just held on to fourth place from M Sudhakar.

Shyam Shankar was next on the road in sixth position, ahead of Kamran Dubash and S Padmanaban. Venkatraman R and Udipta Kumar completed the top 10.

The afternoon's Open category race was cancelled after a crash which needed the second ambulance and under safety reasons with only one ambulance in the circuit, meant no more races could take place.
