Coimbatore II Euro JK: Chatterjee wins Race 3 as Tharani flips
Nayan Chatterjee emerged victorious in the third Euro JK race at Coimbatore which was red-flagged when Karthik Tharani flipped while running in fifth place.
At the start of the race, Ajay Kini took the lead from pole-sitter Akash Gowda, with Chatterjee moving up to third.
The Mumbai-born driver then started hunting down the top runners, dispatching both Gowda and Kini by lap three to take lead of the race.
Behind, yesterday’s double winner Ananth Shanmugam was slowly but steadily moving up the pack, running as high as third before the red-flag was deployed.
Tharani, who finished on the podium in both races yesterday, flipped his car - but managed to escape unscathed from the incident.
The race was red-flagged and resumed for only three laps, where Chatterjee managed to keep the chasing pack at bay to take his third win of the season.
Kini held on to second, with Shanmugam occupying the third spot on the podium.
Mohammed Nalwalla was next up in fourth, with Dhruv Mohite completing the top five.
2015 Vento Cup winner Anindith Reddy was sixth, ahead of his former rival Karminder Singh.
Gowda finished down in eighth place, having started on pole, while Manav Sharma and Ricky Donison completed the top 10.
