At the start, Tharani led the field from pole position, with Nayan Chatterjee passing slow-starter Ajay Kini to move up to second.

In the battle for the lead, a couple of laps later, Chatterjee lunged inside Tharani at Turn 2, forcing the latter off the track and slotting ahead.

However, the Chennai-based driver managed to launch a counter attack in the next two laps, retaking the lead at Turn 1.

Chatterjee, meanwhile, started to lose more places, dropping down to fourth behind Ananth Shanmugam and Anindith Reddy.

Behind the front battle, Mohammed Nalwalla and Dhruv Mohite crashed in Turn 5, bringing out the safety car.

Despite the race being neutralised, Ricky Donison rear-ended Chatterjee's car at the Mickie Mouse corner, severely damaging Mumbai driver’s rear wing.

But Chatterjee managed to limp home in fourth place and secure some valuable points in the championship battle.

At the front, Tharani went on to secure a comfortable win, with Reddy finishing second after a last-lap pass on Shanmugam.

Chittesh Mandody finished fifth, while Manav Sharma was sixth and Nalwalla seventh - the latter managing to continue after early crash.
