Erda has steadily moved up the racing ranks from karting and finished eighth in last year’s LGB Formula 4 championship.
For 2017, the 17-year-old will step up to Euro JK, one of the premier-single seater series in the country.
Unlike the LGB Formula 4 machines, the FB02 cars used in Euro JK feature both front and rear wings. They are powered by tuned BMW bike engines which churn out 160 bhp.
“Ever since I started racing as a 9-year-old I have been dreaming of becoming a Formula 1 racer,” Mira said, on her way back from school. “I want to thank JK Tyres and FMSCI for this wonderful opportunity as this is one huge jump forward towards realising my dream,” she added.
Erda plans to dovetail her Euro JK commitments by taking part in national rallies and international karting championships to gain maximum track time.
Till date, the Vandorada-born driver has taken part in 75 races at the national and international level.
“This is very good news for Indian motorsport,” Sanjay Sharma, Head of JK Tyre Motorsports. “It will encourage other girls to take up the sport as well. I must congratulate Mira for this huge jump. I am sure she will do well at this level too.”
