MMSC confirms Road to Indy shot for FF1600 winner

The winner of the 2016 MRF Formula Ford 1600 championship will get a chance to compete with 16 other champions in the Road to Indy shootout for a scholarship of USD 200,000 to drive in the USF2000 series.

MMSC president Ajit Thomas in a statement released said: “We are pleased to announce our tie-up with the Indy Racing League for the Mazda Road to Indy scholarship shootout which is further evidence to our commitment to develop talent in the sport."

Along with the tie-up announcement, Thomas also revealed the reason for starting the 2016 championship early. “We will continue the trend from this year to start our championship early in the year and stretch it over the year.

"The feedback from our partners and competitors has been positive and encouraging in starting early again next year," he added.

Further changes will see the Formula LGB 1300 being converted into a rookie class open to drivers below the age of 25 years.

In addition, the top performers of the LGB 1300 will be eligible for scholarship to the 2017 MRF FF 1600 championship.

MMSC also announced the dates of shootouts for scholarships for the 2016 season which is to be staged at the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) from December 8 to 11.

Rookies and newcomers can take part in the scholarship shootout for the Formula LGB 1300 and existing drivers below 25 years of age participate in the shootout for the MRF FF1600.

Round 1: January 29th - 31st

Round 2: March 4th-6th

Round 3: June 17th-19th

Round 4: July 15th– 17th

Round 5: August 19th-21st

Round 6: September 6th-18th
