The track temperature soared high touching 63C at the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) playing host to the MRF 1600's championship but it didn't deter Tharani to take pole.

Four laps into the session, the times started to come down; Goutham Parekh initially went on top but Tharani on his fifth lap registered the fastest time which was enough to seal the top slot.

The time of 1:42.850 from Tharani was 0.845s clear of second place Arjun Narendran. In doing so, Tharani got his second pole of the season in the four qualifying rounds till now.

Surprisingly, championship rival Parekh only managed third best time. He had an understeer which looks to be due to the high track temperature.

Tajes Ram slotted in at fourth after registering his best time in his fourth lap but was over two seconds away from the leader while Chetan Korada completed the top five.

The rest of the field has Anshul Shah sixth, actor/racer Jai Sampath seventh, Niranjan Todkari eighth and Utkarsh Singh ninth; the latter two were over four and five seconds off the leader.

Race one is due to start at 11:35 local time while race two is slotted for 15:10 local time start on Sunday.
