The MRF 1600 leader Karthik Tharani had to fight hard to keep his place from rival Goutham Parekh under conditions far from ideal at Coimbatore in the third round.

Parekh couldn’t sweep wins at the Kari Motor Speedway losing out to Tharani in race two in a rain-affected race.
Tharani after having a tough race one came back handsomely to win the final race of the weekend to still lead the championship by just one point.
“Qualifying was really bad and it meant, I spent the rest of the weekend catching up. Race 1 was good and third was the best I could do and so am happy with that,” Tharani said after the race.
“In Race 2, I had a great start and after that it was tough with the conditions being so tricky. I knew, we had the pace in the wet so am thrilled with this win,” he concluded.
On the other hand, championship rival Parekh was happy with his weekend. “Race 1 was a lot of fun and I was really enjoying myself out there. The grip levels were good on the wet weather tyres,” he said.
“In Race 2, I had a very bad start and it took some time to get my rhythm again. It was a great battle with Arjun [Narendran] and Karthik [Tharani].
“Maybe, if I had one more lap, I could have tried for the win,” the Bangalore-based driver concluded.
