Jamin’s pace threatens Pelfrey at Mid-Ohio
Aside from the session in which he didn’t participate, Nico Jamin of Cape Motorsports was at the top of every Pro Mazda test session at Mid-Ohio today.
The reigning USF2000 champion ended the day a solid 0.4sec clear of Juncos Racing’s Nicolas Dapero, setting a time of 1min18.8528sec, an average of 103.088mph around the 2.258-mile track.
In the absence of runaway championship leader Patricio O’Ward, Aaron Telitz was Team Pelfrey’s pacesetter, and finished the day in third, ahead of two more Juncos cars piloted by Jake Parsons and Will Owen.
However, Telitz was not the only representative for Pelfrey which has won every Pro Mazda race this season. TJ Fischer has graduated within the team from USF2000, and will spend the remainder of the season in Pro Mazda, replacing Weiron Tan in the #81 car.
The Californian remarked: “For me, it’s more than just about the opportunity to race with the defending champions and their experience, but to do so alongside guys like Aaron Telitz and Pato O’Ward will really help me develop and grow my career.”
“We are delighted to have TJ graduate to our Pro Mazda program and stay within the Team Pelfrey family,” said Jonny Baker, director of team operations. “He will fit in very well with our current drivers and team members, of that I have no doubt, and I expect him to learn a lot from them and deliver promising results.”
