ARDOIN WINS STAR MAZDA RACE AT MAZDA RACEWAY
MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2007) -- Alex Ardoin passed Dane Cameron on the last competitive lap to win the final race of the season for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Cameron had already clinched the 2007 championship and was leading the final race when Ardoin slipped by with a few laps to go. Shortly after Ardoin took the lead, a multi-car accident brought out the caution flag. The race was never restarted.
Cameron finished second in the race, followed by James Davison, Nick Haye and John Zartarian. There were 35 starters.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for Star racing. The program includes the national championship and several regional and age group championships as well.
The race at Mazda Raceway was part of the American Le Mans Series weekend at the track. The Star Mazda Championship's season-ending banquet was held during the evening after the race.
Dan Tomlin III was the top finisher in the Expert class for drivers aged 20-44 years. It was his third class win of the season. He won the class championship.
Tomlin's father, Dan Tomlin Jr., was the race winner in the Master class. Steve Hickman won the Master's class title.
