EDWARDS CHAMPION OF STAR MAZDA PRESENTED BY GOODYEAR
MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2008) -- Richard Kent won the race but John Edwards finished second and clinched the 2008 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear title at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Championship. The national championship series is one part of the vast Star Mazda program. The sanctioning body has regional championships and age group championships. In addition, Goodyear has been the winningest tiremaker in the SCCA's Formula Mazda class for Star Mazda racers.
Edwards won four races on his way to the 2008 title.
The race at Mazda Raceway was the final of the season for the series. Kent's margin of victory was 2.171 seconds over Edwards. Peter Dempsey was third, followed by Joel Miller and Alex Ardoin.
Phil Fogg Jr. won the Expert class (for drivers aged 30-44 years) and Chuck Hulse won the Masters class (45 year and up).
