The high winds that lashed at Texas Motor Speedway Thursday have subsided a bit. At the start of Friday night's Craftsman Truck race the temperature was 91 degrees with winds ranging from 25 to 30 mph.

Wind was a factor during Saturday's pre-race activities. Scheduled to jump 25 Hummers, Robbie Knievel decided to shorten his jump 21 vehicles, one more than he originally announced. With sustained winds of 18 to 20 mph and gusts to 34, the jump was shortened in the interest of safety. Knievel faced a direct headwind on launch. He bobbled as he contacted the landing ramp and much to the delight of the adoring crowd, ultimately gained control of the bike to make a successful jump.

Texas Motor Speedway track distance used for official timing and scoring is 1.455-miles.

Dan Wheldon was to have competed in a special paint scheme at Texas. Unfortunately, his black No.10 Ganassi Racing machine, sporting sponsorship from Polaroid, was wrecked during Friday's practice. He will compete in a traditional red car.
***
John Andretti will mark his first start at Texas Motor Speedway in the IndyCar Series on Saturday. Andretti has competed in 16 NASCAR races at the high banked speedway, seven in the Sprint Cup Series and nine in the Nationwide Series. His seventh place starting position is his best of any series at Texas.

Scott Dixon has earned the pole position at every 1.5-mile track this season. In addition to this weekend, Dixon started from the pole at Homestead-Miami and Kansas Speedway.
