Castroneves quickest in final practice at Pocono

Helio Castroneves took top spot during this evening’s final practice session, as Chevrolet-powered cars dominated the top 10 in race trim.

Castroneves’ top time was a 218.824mph, slotting the #3 Team Penske entry ahead of Carlos Munoz’s Andretti Autosport-Honda which was 0.8mph adrift. The Brazilian also turned 36 laps, more than any of his rivals.

Although Penske did not participate in last week’s test here at the 2.5-mile tri-oval in the Pocono mountains, all four drivers made the top 10, this afternoon, with championship leader Simon Pagenaud third, 2014 Pocono winner Juan Pablo Montoya in sixth and 2014 IndyCar champion Will Power ninth.

Two drivers who suffered badly with handling issues in qualifying were Sebastien Bourdais and Scott Dixon, and they will roll off 18th and 19th.  Yet the KVSH Racing-Chevy and Chip Ganassi Racing-Chevy driver bounced back in fine form in this final practice run, to clock fourth and fifth.

Tomorrow’s polesitter, Mikhail Aleshin, was seventh quickest for Schmidt Peterson Motorsport-Honda, with teammate James Hinchcliffe 10th.

Josef Newgarden, who will start from the front row, was 12th fastest with teammate and team owner Ed Carpenter eighth.
