CHAMPCAR/CART: PacWest Houston qualifying notes

SCOTT DIXON - #18 ENRON POWERWARE PACWEST TOYOTA

Position: 7th Time: 100.446s Laps: 20 Speed: 90.944mph

"We try to roll the cars off the trucks at least in a good window set-up wise," said Dixon. "Sometimes we are right on the edge and have to try a lot of different variables but this weekend we've been in that window and I've had a good car as a result. I did fight a little understeer during qualifying but my car is pretty similar to Mo's and the results are that we're both starting in the top-10. I'm a little upset that I couldn't get one final flying lap in, but I hammered the gas a bit to hard and went into the run-off with about one-minute to go. I still think we're in a good position for the race and as long as we stay out of trouble we'll be alright."

MAURICIO GUGELMIN - #17 NEXTEL PACWEST TOYOTA

Position: 9th Time: 100.502s Laps: 19 Speed: 90.860mph

"I was aiming to get P1 in my session because it's so important to get into the fast group for Laguna Seca, which I did," said Gugelmin. "My car has been good right off the trucks all weekend and I was just hoping that my qualifying time would keep me in the top-10 after the second group finished. My Nextel crew has done an excellent job all week preparing for this race and I think we're in good shape for tomorrow. This is my second best starting position all year, and things are always easier when you start close to the front."
