Sebring, FL (December 20, 1999) - PacWest Racing's Mauricio Gugelmin completed over 115 miles during the first portion of a scheduled two-day test session at Florida's Sebring International Raceway today.

"It was a typical test day, really," said PacWest Team Manager Russell Cameron.

"We encountered a few minor glitches, but nothing that really hurt us.

"Mo was able to run a good number of laps and generate some solid data regarding the new 2000 equipment.

"We didn't quite reach all of our goals today, but we definitely reached a lot of them.

"While we still have work to do and we're experiencing the minor teething pains associated with any new chassis and engine, we're very pleased with the results so far."

For Gugelmin, today's run marked his third outing in the team's 2000 package following a two-day test on December 9 and 10, and reaffirmed his belief in the car's winning potential.

"We were very encouraged by the performance of the new Mercedes-Benz IC108F and the Reynard 2KI during our first test at Sebring, and we had another productive session today," recounted Gugelmin.

"From the moment I ran those first few laps in the new car two weeks ago, I felt we had something special.

"The increased cooperation between Mercedes-Benz, Reynard, and PacWest is already paying great dividends, and I believe that our closer relationship will allow us to develop the entire package at a faster rate.

"It's certainly a nice feeling to head into the new season with this kind of confidence." Gugelmin and his PacWest crew will continue testing at Sebring tomorrow, while Mark Blundell will get his first drive of the new Reynard at the same venue on January 10-11.
