SONOMA, Calif. - Ken Dobson earned his first-career SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge Touring Car Championship pole position, topping the 42-car field for today's X-Factor Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sears Point Raceway Round Six race. Steve Pfeffer, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and point leader Pierre Kleinubing, of Brazil, completed to the top-three.

Driving the No. 7 Westek Electronics/SSF Auto Parts BMW 328Ci, Dobson jumped from 25th place to first just past the 20-minute session's halfway point with a lap of 1:53.398 (80.001 mph) on the 2.52-mile circuit.

"We knew we wanted two laps out of the session," said Dobson. "Atthe start, I went out and turned a quick lap when I was behind Terry [McCarthy], but we hit traffic pretty quickly. After sitting in the pits, we went out and did two fliers and came back in. The last seven minutes, I sat in the pits waiting to see if someone could top us. That was the longest seven minutes!

"This is great for us. It's so different to be sitting here talking [at a press conference]. We've had so many problems this season and SSF has helped us make the car faster. To put it on the pole is incredible. We have a lot of friends and family here and winning the pole is so special. It's like a big party for us already."

Pfeffer drove the No. 26 John Hancock/JJ's Snacks BMW 328is to second-0.057-second behind. The RealTime Racing Acura Integra Rs of Pierre Kleinubing and Hugh Plumb will make up the second row, with rookie Rob Hines recording a career-best performance in fifth followed by McCarthy, of Mountain View, Calif.

Round Six of the Speedvision Touring Car Championship will take the green lights at 3:50 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
