Dixon fastest, then spins in warm-up

The Chip Ganassi Racing-Chevrolet driver, who will start from an unrepresentative 11^th place in this afternoon’s race following a strategic miscue in qualifying, looped the Target car around as he got on the power exiting Turn 6. He looped through 180 degrees and made slight contact with the wall at the entrance to Turn 7. That brought out the red and checkered flags to end the session.

Josef Newgarden was second fastest for Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevy, followed by Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing-Honda). Polesitter Simon Pagenaud (Penske-Chevy), Mikhail Aleshin of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports-Honda and the impressive debutant RC Enerson of Dale Coyne Racing-Honda were next up.

Today’s 90-lap race starts at 2:45pm ET.
