DREYER & REINBOLD RACING BATTLES RAINY CONDITIONS IN SURFERS PARADISE
Buddy Rice and Townsend Bell encounter first session of wet conditions in Australia during qualifying

SURFERS PARADISE, Australia -- After taking part in three sunny and dry practice sessions between Friday and Saturday morning, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing was faced with rain that arrived on Saturday afternoon, just minutes before the first qualifying group took to the track for the first session of qualifying.

The rain was enough to drench the track for both group one, which Townsend Bell took part in, and group two with Buddy Rice.

Though certain parts of the track began drying out throughout the session one groups, the track conditions never became dry enough to warrant a change from rain tires to slick tires. Still, Bell and Rice's lap times dropped with each lap turned in, and both turned in their best laps right at the end of their respective sessions.

Bell will start in 21st with teammate Rice sharing the same row in 22nd.

Sunday morning in Surfers Paradise will give the Emu Australia teams one more chance to dial-in their race cars with a 30-minute warm-up session starting at 8:35. The 60-lap Nikon Indy 300 will follow at 12:40 p.m. Both times listed are in local time (GMT +10:00).

Live coverage of the event in the U.S. can be seen on ESPN Classic on October 25th at 10:30 p.m. ET. A replay will be shown on ESPN2 on Sunday, October 26th, at 11 p.m. ET.

QUOTES

#15 EMU AUSTRALIA/Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Honda Dallara Driver Buddy Rice

"We've been using each session to make our EMU Australia Honda better and better. We're all learning this circuit for the first time so we're just making the best of what we've got. I think we're getting close to where we need to be, and by race time, we should be able to move through the field with a good car and smart calls in the pits."

#23 EMU AUSTRALIA/Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Honda Dallara Driver Townsend Bell

"I think we've been making good gains each time we've been out on the track. Even during the wet session in qualifying, I felt like we learned some things that will make our car better in the dry. The EMU Australia crew has done a great job all weekend with prepping the car, and I'm optimistic we can show the local crowd a solid performance on Sunday."
