Firestone Tire Performance Recap: Firestone engineers brought their most durable road-course tire specification to Edmonton. It was the same compound and construction as was previously used at Watkins Glen this season, but with increased tread thickness (gauge) to withstand the demanding airport circuit.
From Scott Dixon, #9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "Fantastic! The Target guys really nailed it in the pits. All credit to my guys, it was a textbook day. The Firestone Firehawk tires were great today - they were really consistent, and I think a lot of times there, we could have double-stinted them. They were really lasting a long time. So we were definitely happy with the Firestone tires - they performed great."
From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "Based on our company's past experience at this track, we came to Edmonton with our hardest road course tire. They certainly held up very well - durability wasn't' an issue. It looks like we may even be able to go a little softer with our spec for this event next year. We have a lot of data to consider for future races at this unique track, and many of the Edmonton fans were asking if we would ever bring back the 'alternate tire' program we offered here from 2005-2007. It was great to hear that interest, and it's definitely something we will think about and work with the IndyCar Series on to see if we can add yet another piece of strategy into the always-entertaining show these drivers put on."
Firestone "Tire-ific" Move of the Race: This $10,000 prize is awarded after each IndyCar Series race to the driver who best utilizes his or her Firestone tires to make a bold, dramatic move during the event. This week's nominees are: Scott Dixon and his Target crew for a quick pit stop that put him at the front; Paul Tracy for nipping Oriol Servia at the start/finish line to finish fourth; and Tony Kanaan for never giving up, working his way from last to lead and eventually finish ninth. Fans can vote through Wednesday at www.indycar.com to determine the recipient, and the "Tire-ific" award winner will be named at the next event. Prior to today's race, Justin Wilson was named winner of the "Tire-ific" award from the July 20 Mid-Ohio race, for his pass of Helio Castroneves for the lead while on wet tires.
