Making History Together: Target will compete in its 17th Indianapolis 500 with Target Chip Ganassi Racing in 2010. Since the formation of this dominant force in motorsports, the Target IndyCar team has amassed seven championship titles and 75 wins - including two Indianapolis 500 victories. Current Target NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya won in 2000 and current Target IZOD IndyCar Series driver Scott Dixon won in 2008. The team has claimed two Indianapolis 500 poles (Bruno Junqueira -- 2002, Scott Dixon -- 2008), and Ganassi enters the 2010 Indianapolis 500 as the only team owner to have two past Indianapolis 500 champions entered.
One of Two: When Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates won the 2010 Daytona 500 with Jamie McMurray, Chip Ganassi joined Roger Penske to become the only two team owners to win both the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500. No team owner has ever won both races in the same year.
Additional Entry: For the third consecutive year, Sam Schmidt Motorsports and Chip Ganassi Racing will team up to compete in the Indianapolis 500. The No. 99 SSM/CGR entry with SSM sponsor Herbalife will be driven by IZOD IndyCar Series veteran Townsend Bell of San Luis Obispo, Calif. He finished fourth in the 2009 Indianapolis 500.
Scott Dixon and the No. 9 Target Team
Indianapolis 500 Review: In seven starts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Dixon won the event in 2008, has collected four top-10s and has led 230 laps.
Record Holder: With his win at Kansas Speedway earlier this month, Dixon earned his 22nd win in the IZOD IndyCar Series -- extending his series record. He also extended his record of most consecutive top-10 starts to 37. Dixon needs to lead just 233 laps to become the series' all-time lap leader over Sam Hornish Jr. who is the current record holder at 3,428 laps.
Season Rewind: In the first five races of the season, Dixon gathered three top-fives and four top-10s. He has had two podiums over the last three races -- just missing a third podium at Long Beach when he finished fourth. Dixon dominated at the series' first oval by leading 167 laps at Kansas to earn his first victory of the season. The win moved him from fifth to second in the championship - just 26 points behind leader Will Power.
Dario Franchitti and the No. 10 Target Team
Indianapolis 500 Review: In six starts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Franchitti has started on the front row three times (2004, 2007, and 2009), has had four top-10s, and has led 100 laps. He won the event in 2007.
A Look Back on 2010: Franchitti has had three top-fives and four top-10s over the last five races with his best finish of second occurring on the only oval of the season at Kansas.
Dario Franchitti's Great Drives: Dario Franchitti recently partnered with Scotland's national tourism organization VisitScotland and has created three detailed driving itineraries around the country. The online itineraries include narratives by Franchitti as he highlights some of his favorite routes, sights, and places to stop along the way. The itineraries can be found at www.cometoscotland.com.
