The Andretti-Herta Autosport driver eked out his final fuel load for 36 laps of the legendary 2.5-mile track to grab an unlikely victory ahead of teammate Carlos Munoz. It meant the 24-year-old became only the 10th rookie to win the “500”, the first since Helio Castroneves in 2001 and the first American rookie winner since Louis Meyer in 1928.

He earned Fastest Rookie and Rookie of the Year honors. The 24-year-old became only the 10th rookie ever to win the 500-mile race in its history;

Rossi commented: “It is such a huge honor to be nominated for Best Driver at the ESPYS this year. It will be a pleasure to spend an evening with such an exceptional group of athletes who have all accomplished something pretty incredible.

“I very much look forward to being able to represent and share my passion for the Verizon IndyCar Series next month.”

The Californian becomes the second Andretti Autosport driver to be nominated for an ESPY award in the last four years.

Ryan Hunter-Reay, took home “Best Driver” honors with both his nominations in 2013 [for his 2012 IndyCar championship victory] and 2014, for his Indy 500 win.

You can vote by visiting www.ESPYS.com until July 13, when all the ESPY winners will be revealed on ABC.
