Baltimore, Maryland – September 2, 2011 – Conquest Racing’s Sebastian Saavedra completed the first day of free practice sessions at the temporary street circuit in downtown Baltimore for the 17th round of the IZOD IndyCar Series. It was a long day that was stalled by the ongoing construction and preparation work on the 2.4 mile track which delayed today’s on-track activities for more than four hours. The delay was caused by the re-installation of the fencing that was taken down prior to the event in preparation for Hurricane Irene; teams and drivers had to wait patiently for the construction work to be over before they could finally get some track time and start their weekend activities. Brian Barnhart, President of Competition for the IZOD IndyCar Series stated “Safety is always first” and the delays where just a hiccup on this weekend’s activities, which re-affirmed the commitment of the series in regards to safety for all drivers, teams and fans.
After the session Saavedra was happy with his #34 Bogota Es Mundial car and quickly adapted to the extremely bumpy 12 -turn temporary street, finishing P17 with a lap of 1.23.8119. The shortened practice session was often interrupted by red flags but the Conquest Racing team managed to stay out of trouble while finding a suitable set-up for the car.
The IZOD IndyCar series will be back for more on-track action tomorrow Saturday September 3 at 9:05 AM ET for a practice session and a qualifying at 12:10 PM ET. LIVE Timing & Scoring will be available for both sessions at www.indycar.com and the qualifying session will be transmitted on VERSUS later that night at 6:00 PM ET.

"Im very happy with this first contact with the track. The circuit itself is very technical and very interesting to work with. This year's high performance level of all 28 drivers is going to make it even more interesting. Our goal right now is to keep the pace with the top 10 as everyone will improve for tomorrow. We cant stop working on the car and going faster. I was very comfortable with the car but traffic didn't let us show our full potential"
