“The success of our partnership with IndyCar is a testament to our partnership with Iowa Corn and our loyal race fans in Iowa,” said Small. “The Iowa Corn 300 has become a bucket-list item for race fans and we’re thrilled to make the announcement now so our fans can start planning ahead for the next two epic seven-eighths of a mile showdowns.

“We love everything that the Iowa Corn 300 has grown into and I’m proud to have them on board for two more years.”

Small confirmed that the next two races would continue to be Sunday afternoon events, although he admitted that he and the fans preferred night racing.

“With broadcast partner NBC Sports coming on board and the NASCAR race at Kentucky [tonight] on NBCSN, we had to look at attendance, we looked at fan feedback.

“We love night racing here, and I’m sure everyone in the room would be unanimous in supporting night racing. But we put all that together and made our best decision possible. I love the fact that NASCAR has Thursday through Saturday at Kentucky, and we have Sunday and the last race of the weekend.”

Fry stated: “Iowa Speedway has become a staple of the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule and we’re happy to confirm we’ll be returning here in 2017 and 2018. The level of competition at this track is incredible and showcases some of the best INDYCAR racing you’ll see all year.

“We’re thankful for the continued support from Iowa Corn and Iowa Speedway track president Jimmy Small. Both of their teams have been instrumental in making this such a strong event.”

This weekend's race is the 10th IndyCar event here, and Iowa Corn is the second-longest continuous primary IndyCar race sponsor on the schedule, after Toyota at Long Beach.
