RAIN WASHES AWAY QUALIFYING AT IOWA; VISION RACING TO START NINTH AND 18TH

NEWTON, Iowa - Vision Racing drivers Ed Carpenter and A.J. Foyt IV will start from the ninth and 18th spots, respectively, for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Iowa Speedway tomorrow afternoon. Rain showers canceled qualifying thus forcing the starting grid to be set by IndyCar Series entrant point standings.

Starting from ninth comes as a disappointment to Carpenter and the No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Honda powered Dallara, as he felt that a better spot was in his reach had he been able to qualify.

Carpenter will be making his second career start at Iowa after starting fifth, running as high as second and finished sixth last year. He will be looking for his third top-five finish of the season.

Equally as disappointed, Foyt will start 18th in the No. 2 Lilly Diabetes/Vision Racing Honda/Dallara/Firestone machine. In Foyt's first attempt at Iowa last year, he started 10th, ran as high as second and was in fourth when involved in an accident and retired in 12th.

He will be vying to break into the top-10 for the third time this year.

The 228-lap, 342-mile race at Iowa Speedway gets started at 1:00 (EDT) on ABC, as well as IMS Radio Network, XM IndyCar Series Racing Channel 145, XM Sports Nation Channel 144 and on the web at www.IndyCar.com.

A.J. Foyt IV - No. 2 Lilly Diabetes/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"Our first practice was pretty decent and then in our second practice we tried some stuff that really didn't work. We were going to go back to the original set up for qualifying and probably could have cracked the top-10, but instead with qualifying being cancelled we'll be starting 18th. It's a big disadvantage when you're starting so far back with how difficult it is to pass here. It's going to be a long race."

Ed Carpenter - No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"It's frustrating. The rain came then cleared up quickly but we still didn't get the opportunity to go out and qualify. It's disappointing because it's so hard to pass at this track so starting position can be really important. We're here to put on a show for the Iowa fans and there are still people out here. I don't understand all the reasoning sometimes behind the decisions. We'll just have to start ninth tomorrow based on points and it could be worse I guess, but I think we would have had a lot better start if we had been able to qualify. We'll see what happens."
