The month of May might not have arrived yet, but don't tell that to the legions of dogs who showed up for Indianapolis Motor Speedway's inaugural Mutt Strut today.

Pooches (and friends) of all sizes, ethnicity and conditioning made their way around the Pavilion Plaza after signing in, visiting various water bowls, making pooch art, having caricatures painted and even getting massages. Yes, massages for dogs and people were offered.
Various rescue entities had dogs for adoption and/or pamphlets to share, and of course the Humane Society of Indianapolis was involved. A multi- breed local Search & Rescue squad showed their capabilities after their brethren had completed walkies. And after photo ops at the Yard of Bricks.
Prior to the Mutt Strut various Indy Racing League IndyCar and Menards Infiniti Pro Series drivers were available for autographs, in many cases joined by their own best friends. Tomas Scheckter brought his two mini- Dobermans, Tarka and Tyson, Sarah Fisher's Dalmatian Nash walked her the full 2.5 miles, and Ed Carpenter had his handsome Rottweiler Bentley and his girlfriend's Chihuahua Roscoe out for the stroll.
Tony and Laura George brought their two large black Labs (whose names I didn't collect), and members of the four-legged George family had a fine time performing doggie art prior to prancing trackside. While Tony George was a wee bit apprehensive about the probability of remembrances left behind by the four-legged visitors, most strutters were seen with obligatory plastic bags.

Afterwards, it was time to drink plenty of water and watch the show by the Rescue Dogs. Tomorrow the track goes back to its original intent, hosting the annual Rookie Orientation Program for bipeds on four wheels, preparing for this year's 88th Indianapolis 500 Mile Race.
