IPS: IRL: Racing Guide to Indianapolis 500

Are you ready for some racing?

Hundreds of thousands of racing fans will descend on the Indianapolis area during the month of May for the 87th running of the Indianapolis 500. Festivities surrounding the race include breakfast with the mayor, the CARA fashion show, the 500 Festival parade, a memorabilia show, even a 10K run through the city.

Events in conjunction with the race enjoy tremendous community support. All are well worth attending, but you're not reading Motorsport.com because you're interested in fashion shows. The annual pilgrimage to Indianapolis is all about speed.

Although the focus during May is on the 500-mile race at 16th and Georgetown, central Indiana is rich with great racing. From drag racing at Indianapolis Raceway Park to motorcycles on the road course at Putnam Park, there's something for everyone.
