Airton Dare’ began Sunday’s Homestead IRL race with a strong march through the field. Midway through the race, Dare’ climbed from 20th to ninth position with a car that appeared to get stronger with each long run. Unexpectedly the motor expired as Dare’ attempted to put the 1-800 BAR NONE car in 8th position.

“Airton consistently told us the car’s handling was improving over the course of the race. The engine vitals were normal and there were no warning signs that this would happen,” Mark Weida, the team’s engineer says. “Airton displayed his superb driving ability today, we just experienced one of the infinite variables that can torment any team.” Long hours of crunching numbers and turning wrenches on the back-up car resulted in a stout performer that Dare’ was happy with.

“I want to thank the crew for changing to the back up car,” Dare’ says. “I know they were short on time but they did a great job on setting it up. We were doing so well and we had momentum. It was a shock because the car was so strong the entire race.”

This was an important race for TeamXtreme and their primary sponsor 1-800 BAR NONE, a leading auto finance company that links consumers, auto dealers and auto finance sources. “I wanted to put on a good show for 1-800 BAR NONE,” Dare’ says. “More than 100 of their auto dealership relationships attended the race and it was important for me to show them how competitive our crew, engineering staff and my driving skills really are.”

Now the team heads back to Rockwall, Texas to prepare for Atlanta’s race, the final event before the legendary INDY 500.
