IRL: Anthony Lazzaro medical update

Lazzaro Transported to Hospital

Phoenix: Anthony Lazzaro was transported to Good Samaritan hospital complaining of lower back pain after impacting the wall in turn two on lap 103 in the Bombardier ATV Copper World Indy 200 from the Phoenix International Raceway. Lazzaro will spend the night for observation and X-rays.

"It looked like someone ran over his right front wing and spun him," said Skip Faul, team manager for Treadway-Hubbard Racing who fields the car for Sam Schmidt Motorsports. "The right front wing end plate has a big tire mark where someone ran into him. Someone else hit him in the left side after he got sideways. It's to bad, we were having a good run for the Sam Schmidt Motorsports team."

Lazzaro finished 17th in his #99 Sam Schmidt Motorsports Racing Special. Lazzaro is now 11th in the season points race and leads the Rookie of the Year points.

The next event is the Yamaha Indy 400 on Sunday March 24th from the Fontana Speedway. The race can be seen on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. EST.
