GOODYEAR TIRE FINAL QUALIFYING MBNA MID-ATLANTIC 200, DOVER DOWNS INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

Goodyear reclaimed the 1999 season lead in Indy Racing League pole positions when Mark Dismore took his MCI Worldcom-sponsored entry from Kelley Racing around the high-banked mile at Dover Downs at an average speed of 182.639 mph. Goodyear-equipped teams also claimed four of the fastest eight positions for Sunday's MBNA Mid-Atlantic 200. Dismore's Kelley Racing teammate and defending Dover winner Scott Sharp was less than a tick behind Dismore to give Goodyear a front-row sweep for the second time this season. Pagan Racing's Jeff Ward and Galles Racing's Davey Hamilton qualified in the seventh and eighth positions respectively. The entire 23-car field qualified within 0.68 seconds of Dismore.

PAUL LAURITZEN, Goodyear IRL Operations Manager: "Goodyear congratulates Mark Dismore, Scott Sharp and the Kelley Racing team on their second 1-2 qualifying effort of the year. The speed differential at Dover has been remarkably tight this weekend and the Goodyear-equipped cars have been on the top of the speed charts in every session. Our teams tell us the tires have shown remarkable consistency and durability throughout each run. Tomorrow, Goodyear is looking to clinch the unofficial season title for tire manufacturers with our sixth victory in seven races to date."

MARK DISMORE, Kelley Racing: "I couldn't really ask for the car to be any better than it was. The lap was within a couple hundredths of my best time and I'm really happy with that. Scott and I basically have the same tools, so I'm happy to have an all-Kelley front row. Scott's win at Atlanta has energized the whole team. My guys are really hungry for our first win and I'm more than hungry. We're doing everything right and we feel it's our turn. The tires have been really great all weekend. I had one set of tires with about 65 laps on them and I couldn't tell any difference. They were as good at the end as they were at the beginning, so Goodyear really has an awesome tire here."

SCOTT SHARP, Kelley Racing: "This is great, another Kelley 1-2. If I can't be on the pole, then I'm glad it's Mark who's there and that I'm next to him. When you win a race it pumps everybody up and it's nice that the next race you go to is the race you won last year. It gives you extra confidence. This is better than we qualified last year and I'm happy to be on the front row."

JEFF WARD, Pagan Racing: "We hit the rev limiter a little bit and watching everybody else, they didn't seem to be hitting the limiter. I was a bit afraid to use sixth gear because we wouldn't get all the revs and that would be worse than sitting still. Still we're pretty happy to be near the front. You don't need to be on the pole to win this race. We've been running pretty much how we'll race tomorrow, so we've got a good car and we know it works fine. We just want to stay out of trouble. The Goodyear tires have been trouble free. We ran 50 or 60 laps on a set yesterday and put them back on this morning; within five laps we were running 19s. The wear is good, the grip is good and the temperatures are good, so the tires are one less thing we have to worry about tomorrow."

DAVEY HAMILTON, Galles Motorsports: "We can usually back up the speed we practice at. We thought we would be in the high 19.9s and we qualified at 20.0. We're happy, the car feels good and that's a time I feel I can do all day. The Goodyear tires are fast as well; they're just as fast at 70 laps as they are brand-new."
