Focus for the rest of the week "Engines, balance, and finding what rubber will last the whole day. I believe we are still 3 miles per hour off where we want to be. We are working closely with Infiniti and Goodyear to get there. If I had to break it out, a mile-and-a-half of that is still finding the best balance of the car. In this camp, we are never happy until we're first."

On the track conditions this afternoon "It is unusual to have wind this late in the evening; but, I guess, at Indy, nothing is unusual. The wind really plays with your balance. Going into three, I hit 234; down the front, I was at 236. All the time, I was like a cat on a hot tin roof, skittering along, looking to regain the balance."

On his rookie, Wim Eyckmans "Like all rookies, he is impatient. He wants to be farther along than he should be. We are pacing him so that he stays in line with the learning curve. We wanted him to reach 220 today and he came very close. He should feel very good at where he is at."

Sponsor Information Primary sponsorship of Team Cheever comes from The Children's Beverage Group. "Things went much better today. Especially my first few laps when I got up to speed quickly and did a 218. I am pleased with my 219.904 time. We wanted to get into the 220s today and we came very close. I actually was pacing at a 220 on one lap but then got caught in traffic."

"My line is improving greatly. Eddie and Owen (Snyder) watched me on the monitor and were then able to help me learn to stay higher and to turn in later...to make a nice ark. Once I got that, it got better and better."

"I have a lot of confidence in this team and the car. When they tell me there is more in the car, I don't think about it, I know they are right and I go do it. To have that kind of trust is a great feeling."'

"Running on ovals is very different from what I am used to driving in Europe. You must be so much smoother. It is a completely different style of driving. I am getting the hang of it and it's a big help having Eddie there who understands the European way of doing things. He is able to quickly explain the subtleties on how to switch over to this style of driving."

Sponsor Information Primary sponsorship of Wim Eyckmans comes from EGP and Beaulieu of America. EGP, based near Brussels-Belgium, was founded in 1997. After several years of research and development, the firm has introduced an extensive line of fully environmental cleaning products for use in the industrial, business and domestic arenas. The company currently employs a staff of 28 and is growing quickly. Turnover for 1998 was $15 million dollars. EGP's goals are to double their turnover in 1999, to expand strongly on the US market and to bring a safer and more responsible use to the maintenance tasks in today's world at large. Beaulieu of America is the largest privately held, and overall, the third largest carpet and rug manufacturer in the world. The most fully integrated company in the floor covering industry, Beaulieu controls production from raw materials to finished products. This vertical integration allows Beaulieu to control product quality standards and ensures a continuous supply of material to marketplace demands. With approximately 12,000 employees worldwide, Beaulieu of America reported annual sales revenues of $1.5 billion in 1998.
