Speedway, IN (May 11, 2004) -- Under sunny skies and an ambient temperature of 79 degrees, Red Bull Cheever Racing hit the track for the third consecutive day of practice for the 88th Indianapolis 500.

Several Indy Racing League IndyCar Series drivers were quick to reach speeds of 221 mph, and the speeds kept climbing all the way through happy hour.

The Red Bull Cheever Racing American duo improved upon yesterday's practice times with both the No. 51 and No. 52 Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone entries.

Ed Carpenter, rookie driver in contention for the Indy 500 Rookie of the Year Award, posted a fast lap of 41.1897sec, 218.501mph. The driver of the No. 52 Chevy-powered car earned the 15th fastest position overall, but Carpenter was hoping for more progress today.

"It was a little bit of a frustrating day," Carpenter said. "We were working on a different setup, but it didn't work out as we had planned and we're going to have to make some adjustments. We also lost some time doing an engine change, so we'll have to be 100% ready to go tomorrow morning."

Alex Barron, the 33-year old California native, was hot on the heels of his teammate in sixteenth position topping out at speeds of 41.2840sec, 218.002mph.

"Today was my first time out with the car I'll be using for the race," Barron said. "The No. 51 crew has been working so hard to fix it up these past couple of weeks and have it all set to go. We started to trim the car out and continued to work on qualifying setup for Pole Day, so we're right where we want to be."

Three full days of IndyCar practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway remain until Pole Day. You can catch Pole Day coverage live on ESPN on Saturday, May 15.
