Mo Nunn Racing driver Felipe Giaffone was the top placed G Force driver in today's 86th running of the Indianapolis 500.
Giaffone finished 3rd after challenging for victory late in the race, charging on race winner Helio Castroneves.
However, with only a handful of laps to go, Giaffone was blocked on the outside by the lapped car of Dario Franchitti, enabling Franchitti's team-mate Paul Tracy to pass Giaffone for 2nd place.
The race finished under caution when the cars of Laurent Redon and Buddy Lazier crashed with only two laps to go.
"We had a really good car all day and I am pretty disappointed to miss out on the win, but the team did a really good job," Giaffone said.
"I got held up by Franchitti as I was making a move on Castroneves and that was it.
"The G Force all month has been really strong and it has been great having Tony Kanaan as a team-mate.
"We are both about the same size and we have been able to swap set-ups during practice to move our cars towards the front."
Giaffone had previously passed Tracy on Lap 172 to take 2nd place. That move earned him the lead one lap later when Tomas Scheckter crashed.
The Mo Nunn squad pitted for fuel, but just fell short in the chase of Castroneves at the finish who stayed out and stretched his fuel consumption to the checkered flag.
The G Force cars had proven to be exceptionally strong early in the race with the top four positions filled by Bruno Junqueira, Robbie Buhl, Tony Kanaan and Giaffone after 15 laps.
Unfortunately, the challenge by Junqueira and Kanaan faltered after 87 laps when a transmission problem put Junqueira out of the race and also left oil on the track.
Kanaan crashed three laps later exiting turn 3 on oil left from Junqueira's demise. Rookie Rick Treadway was also forced out in the same incident.
"I guess that's the price you pay for being in first because you're the first one to get to the oil," Kanaan said.
"At least I can say I led the Indy 500. We did what we could, but unfortunately, we missed it. It is a shame because we had a great car."
G Force was yesterday announced as one of the official IRL chassis suppliers for the next three years. The company has been in IRL competition since the introduction of the new chassis rules in 1997.
Part of the Panoz group's Elan Motorsport Technologies organization, the G Force headquarters in Georgia features full in-house design, fabrication, machining and composite construction facilities.
The largest manufacturer of racing cars in the world, the Elan group includes G Force, Formula Ford expert Van Dieman, leading American Le Mans Series team Panoz Motor Sports and specialist services companies Elan Power Products, Elan Precision and Elan Composites.
