Sharp Logs Fifth-Fastest Lap in Rain-Shortened Day

Weather: At 3:45 pm (the start of practice activities), 57º F under partly cloudy skies with strong winds at 21 mph from the northwest. At the start of Happy Hour (5:00 pm), temperature remains 57º F with winds 14 mph from the northwest and gusts up to 23 mph. Moisture reported at 5:38 pm.

Practice Summary: Following intermittent rain throughout the day, the track opened for practice at 3:45 pm. Thirty minutes into the session, Sharp is shown fourth quickest with a lap of 221.113 mph. With the threat of another weather front moving in, the team made changes to the #8 Delphi machine in pit lane rather than returning to the garage. At 4:45 pm, Sharp is shown third quickest, breaking the 222 mph mark with a lap of 222.425 mph. The team concluded their practice run at 5:30 pm, with Scott one of only five drivers to reach the 222 mph mark today.

Qualifying for positions 1-33 will take place this Saturday, May 20 th . Sunday, May 21 st will be reserved for Bump Day.

"It was good for us to get out today. Like everyone, we just carried on with working on race setup. We made some more moves and continued on with our plan. I think we learned some more things, and were just carrying along. That's really what you need to do -- just run laps, make changes and get the car perfected as much as possible. The wind blew around a lot. Everyone had to deal with it but it was pretty consistent, which was good. It is worse when it's gusty. Certainly, you felt it the most going down the back straightaway. It would just move the car side to side."
