Klein Tools/Jim Beam Driver Dan Wheldon 12th in Final Practice Before 88th Indianapolis 500

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (May 27, 2004) - Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan Wheldon completed practice for the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500 today. Wheldon turned a best lap of 214.743 miles per hour around the 2.5-mile Brickyard during Carburetion Day, which is the final two hours of practice before Sunday's race.

Wheldon will start Sunday's 500-mile race from the front row after averaging 221.524 miles per hour over the 10-mile qualification run. This marks the third consecutive Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series event the Klein Tools/Jim Beam car has started on the front row.

Fernandez Racing led the speed charts today with Kosuke Matsuura posting the fastest lap of the day at 219.226 miles per hour. Owner/driver Adrian Fernandez was second fastest at 218.066 miles per hour and Scott Dixon was third at 216.391 miles per hour.

The 88th Indianapolis 500 will take the green flag at Noon ET live on ABC Sports.

Dan Wheldon, Driver, #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"The balance of the Klein Tools/Jim Beam car felt very, very good. I think we were running on our own just a little too much, but we did get a good feel for it. The big thing about this race is making sure you perfect your car as the race goes on to make sure it is good at the end. I think this setup gives the Klein Tools/Jim Beam team a chance at winning if everything goes right."

Tony Cotman, Team Manager, #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"The Klein Tools/Jim Beam crew did a great job this month and Dan has been on his game. It's a long race on Sunday and we need to make sure we are there at the end. After the last pit stop we will leave it to Dan to get the best finish he can."
