This week two more Skip Barber trained racers were added to the Indy 500 entry list joining the previously announced Skip Barber alumnus Michael Andretti to take on the Memorial Day classic.
Robby McGehee, a top-10 finisher in the 2001 Indy Racing Northern Light season opener, and Sam Hornish Jr, the winner in that contest, filed entries on Wednesday in Indianapolis. McGehee, the former Indy Rookie of the Year, will be looking to make his third Brickyard appearance, this time driving for Cahill Racing. Hornish currently has the only Panther car entered for Indy, although the team is helping Team Green prepare its mount that Andretti will drive in his return to the 500.
Speculation continues that CART racer Helio Castroneves, on the pole for today's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, may make the trip to Indy. A field rife with Skip Barber trained talent would be consistent with history, which shows that for over 17 years, the Skip Barber Racing School has trained one-third of all Indy 500 competitors.
