Curb/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing to debut Infiniti power in Kansas.
Billy Boat is very clear when discussing his team's decision mid-season to switch to an Infiniti motor, "The focus of the CURB Records team is to win -- we don't want to just be there, we want to be competitive and win races."
With the Indy Racing League's season half over and the remaining tracks measuring at least 1½ miles, the switch seems logical. "The Infiniti has shown to excel on these longer tracks and they've come a long way in terms of power and reliability, " says Boat. "It's all about winning. We want to win one or two of the races still left on the schedule. We just feel that we will have a better opportunity to do that with the Infiniti. We've had a great relationship with General Motors, Chevrolet, Speedway Engine Development and RPM Engine Development. They've done a fantastic job for us. But the timing is right to move on and try something new. We've been facing a lot of gremlins this year, so we feel like we need to make a drastic move to jump-start our season."
The CURB/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing team will debut their new engine at the Ameristar Casino Indy 200 next weekend at the Kansas Speedway. Ironically, last year at the inaugural event at this track, Eddie Cheever, Jr. captured the first win for the Infiniti Indy 35A engine.
Other drivers committed to the Infiniti engines include Eddie Cheever, Jr., Tomas Scheckter, Robbie Buhl, Sarah Fisher and leading rookie, Laurent Redon. The 32-valve DOHC V8 engine is manufactured by Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan North America, Inc.. Infiniti Motorsports has supplied engines to teams in the Indy Racing League since 1997 and will continue it's support of the League by concentrating its 2003 Indy Racing League program in the new Infiniti Pro Series which debuts this weekend in Kansas.
Billy Boat is anticipating a great race in Kansas. "The CURB Records team is really looking forward to the race in Kansas City for a lot of reasons. Having been one of the first drivers to turn laps in Kansas City last year, I know just how well thought-out and well constructed this facility is. We are especially excited because this will be the first time we're going to be running our Infiniti engine. Other teams have shown that the Infiniti is very powerful and is particularly good on the tracks that measure more than a mile. We're hoping that this engine will give us the added edge that our team may have been lacking so far this season. The team is really looking forward to putting the CURB Records car up front on race day."
The Ameristar Casino Indy 200 airs live on ABC this Sunday, July 7 at 1:00pm EDT. "Indy Racing 2Day" pre-race coverage begins at noon EDT on ESPN.
