The teams equipped with the G Force chassis in the Indy Racing League may have suffered a tough day in qualifying at Kansas Speedway today, but all are hopeful of a strong race run in tomorrow's Ameristar Casino Indy 200.
The six G Force cars filled positions 14 to 16 and 18 to 20 in qualifying today with Jeff Ward (Chip Ganassi Racing) leading Sarah Fisher (Dreyer & Reinbold)
Understeer or push were popular words in the Kansas paddock today - even Gil de Feran suffered major understeer problems, qualifying behind all the G Force runners.
Ward (14th fastest today) remains confident of strong showing in tomorrow's race.
"Its pretty hot out there, and this track is real tricky. We just dont have the setup to qualify well right now," Ward said.
"In the race we will be OK, but we cant get the speed out of the car that we need for qualifying."
Fisher and Dreyer and Reinbold team-mate Robbie Buhl are looking to bounce back after a tough night at Richmond last week.
"We still had a little push during the run, but we made a couple of good guesses that kept it from being a gross push during the run." Fisher said.
"Our combination is really coming together this weekend, and were learning what it takes to get this car to fly. Whats important is Sundays race, and we know what we need to do."
Mo Nunn Racing's Felipe Giaffone has been the most consistent G Force performer in recent weeks, but was disappointed to only be 19th fastest today. Giaffone finished fourth at Kansas last year aboard a G Force.
"We had a good car this morning, we just lost the balance. We pushed quite a lot and couldnt go flat all around, so we just struggled." Giaffone said.
"Its a long race. I think I should have a good race car. We should be able to go up front, and well see what happens."
The confidence for tomorrow's race is echoed by G Force's John Biddlecombe.
"We are working hard on improving our qualifying performances, but we know we will be strong in race conditions when everybody has to put some more downforce back on the cars," he said.
Tomorrow's 200 lap Indy Racing League event kicks off at 12.00noon and will be televised live on ABC.
