Sharp Powers Back to Sixth at Kansas Speedway
It was another strong showing for Scott Sharp who rebounded from a less than perfect race car to finish sixth in the Argent Mortgage Indy^Ù 300 this afternoon. Sharp qualified ninth for his fifth career start at Kansas Speedway, but quickly fell to 15th at the start while battling a "tight" handling race car. The Delphi Fernandez team continued to make changes during their three pit stops of the day, with Sharp claiming his fifth top-seven finish of the season.
Scott Sharp, #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"It was an eventful day. It was an exciting race, back and forth. We were chasing the handling a little bit early on which I think a lot of people did. The Delphi guys did a great job on our pit stops. We were able to get the car dialed in more and more and could really get ourselves up there in position. Then it was just a matter of the different strategy at the end of the race and trying to get as far forward as we could by the flag. I was able to get a few guys there at the end and salvage a good points finish."
SCOTT SHARP FAST FACTS:
This was his fifth IndyCar Series career start at Kansas-- posted three top-five results to date this season with a best finish of second in Japan-- best qualifying effort to date this season was third at Japan and Indianapolis-- enters his 10th season of IndyCar Series competition-- is the series' most experienced driver with 106 career starts and a record 98 consecutive starts-- ranked second in IndyCar Series career wins-- career record includes eight wins, five pole positions and 30 top-five finishes-- was the 1996 IndyCar Series co-champion and the 2001 Indianapolis 500 MBNA Pole winner-- is a former two-time SCCA Trans-Am Champion and three-time SCCA National Champion-- 37 years old from Norwalk, Connecticut-- currently resides in Jupiter, Florida.
Chris Finch, Race Engineer:
"We made some changes for the race and really missed it right at the start. The car was way too tight, which shuffled us all the way back to 15th. We made some adjustments during every pit stop and got it better and better but just not good enough to get up into the top five. All the guys did a great job on our stops, and Scott did a great job on his [pit] ins and outs. We just need to work harder to be a little bit better for the next one."
