JOLIET, Ill., Saturday, September 1, 2001 - Kelley Racing drivers Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore will start third and fifth, respectively, in tomorrow's inaugural Delphi Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway.

This will be Sharp's seventh Top-5 start this season in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series. He qualified the No. 8 Delphi Automotive Systems car in third position with a speed of 220.970 mph after the team changed engines following this morning's practice session.

"I'm really pleased," said Sharp. "The Delphi guys just did a great job. We put a new engine in last night, but it didn't seem like it had as much kick as the one we practiced with yesterday. We put that one back in the car after practice this morning and went right back up to where we thought we could run and really put a blister lap together for qualifying. It's as good as we have."

Drivers will make 200 laps around the 1.5-mile oval tomorrow in the inaugural Delphi Indy 300. Dismore will start his No. 28 Delphi Automotive Systems/Bryant Heating & Cooling car in fifth position with a speed of 220.363 mph. Coming off a second-place finish last weekend in St. Louis, Dismore is ready to come across the finish line first at the conclusion of tomorrow's race.

"I'm looking forward to this race," said Dismore. "We weren't happy to be starting 19th last week, but to get through an entire event without any sort of hiccups and end up second was a great feeling. Today we made a couple of changes after this morning's practice and were able to get a time to put us up in the Top-5. It's the quickest speed I've run all week so you've got to be happy about that. I think we've got a good racecar for tomorrow and I'm ready to keep the Delphi/Bryant car up front all day long. I think we've got a shot at winning this race."

Sharp is currently third in the Driver Points Championship and feels the new Chicagoland Speedway will provide great racing for tomorrow and many years to come.

"I love this track," said Sharp. "I think it's going to prove for a great race tomorrow. We worked on our racecar petty hard yesterday afternoon and were able to utilize the high groove, which is important for traffic. I think we're in good shape. There will be side-by-side racing around here with no problem. You will probably even see some three abreast on the straightaway."

Dismore agrees with Sharp on the smoothness of the track and it's bright future.

"This track has the making of being one of the premier facilities on our schedule," said Dismore. "The track is really smooth and, unlike the stock cars that ran here, we'll be able to go two and three abreast. It's going to be a long race, though. It's 300 miles and will probably require four pit stops. Anything can happen. It'll be some exciting stuff."

The Delphi Indy 300 will be broadcast live on ABC and the IMS Radio Network at 4 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, September 2.
